New Ford Owner
I've always been a Jeep and Bow Tie guy and until recently pulled my travel trailer with a 2500 Suburban. Worst vehicle I've ever owned in my life and needless to say it now belongs to Pick-a part.
I had the good fortune to come across a 1989 F250 Super Cab with a 460 at a price I couldn't pass up and am just trying to find out more about it as well as fix a few minor annoyances. Interior is great except for the front seats. Both are torn on the outside edges that is easily fixed with seat covers, but the drivers seat has actually split the floorboard under one leg and will need to be welded and re-enforced.
I have a few questions about the specs, the trans code on the door is "K" Is this the C6 or E4OD?
Axle code is 39 ??
The Spring Codes are H F. Any ideas what the weight ratings are? The rear has what looks like a set of factory helper springs on it.
Finally there is only one issue that keeps me from saying it runs like a dream. If the tach is correct it idles in gear around 600 RPM. (quite smoothly I have to say) but when I go to pull away from a stop it will hesitate and almost stall but then pick up and take off like there was nothing wrong. It did have one vacuum leak that I originally thought I fixed and the problem went away but in reality I created an even larger leak. Once I fixed that one things went back to the way they were. If I really get on it the problem isn't there, but with normal acceleration it has that hesitation that just drives me nuts.
Any clues on where to start looking?
I'll add that the seller did a full tune-up that I verified including oil, filter, air filter, plugs, cap and rotor.

The only thing I can help with is the trans.
C6 does NOT have overdrive
E4OD DOES have overdrive.
In '89 there would be an OD lockout switch on the dash to the right of the steering column. Also on the gear indicator would have a "D" inside of a "O" to indicate overdrive while a C6 would have "P R N D 2 1".
You can also google door tag decoder and it will tell you what the codes mean. I THINK your axle code means a 3.55:1 gear ratio with an open diff.
As for the issues with it running, pull the codes. Did he do a fuel filter with the tune-up? I do that as part of my regular tune-up
