Looking for 1956 F100 Engine/Trans

OK, so maybe I am just looking for mechanical punishment.....but.....I am going to try and put the 56 that I just purchased back to the original drivetrain. There is a column shift, but no motor or transmission. So I am guessing that this came with a 272 Y block and three speed manual. We're starting the build near Atlanta.

Anyone doing a hot rod and have a discarded orignial engine/trans that they pulled out available near Atlanta?

Thanks for the help.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Could be an automatic, I haven't seen a manual with a column shift on a '56 yet (doesn't mean they're not out there, but I haven't seen one thus far)

Craigslist is a good place to look, try posting an ad in the auto parts section. Many people have things they don't post for sale, but look through the ads. You'll get a lot more hits.

Most 56 F100s were column shift 3 speeds, and in my opinion there isnt anything more fun to drive!

Thanks All

thanks for the responses. I have had a great offer on a rebuilt Y block, but prefer to have the fun of the rebuild myself. I have a line on one now.

Thanks for the assistance.
