Ghost in my brake system

I'm looking for a little help here. I went out to start my '63 and the battery was dead. I hooked-up the charger and after a few minutes, noticed the brake lights were on. I disconnected the wires from the master cylinder pressure switch which solved the problem.

Ordered a new brake light switch, put it in, and did a test drive. After returning and having parked in the garage for 10 minutes, the brake lights suddenly came on. Must be some kind of residual pressure left in the system.

I have the fruit jar master cylinder and will likely replace it with a dual cylinder MC - although 49.5 years of good service isn't anything to complain about.

My question is what could be causing the switch to suddenly close after sitting for 10 minutes? Could it be a stuck wheel cylinder that suddenly was freed?

Thanks.

Dave

Thanks. That may be the case but there is no free play in the pedal when brakes are released. Also, the brake light does go out initially. It comes on again after a few minutes. Weird.

If your brakes are adjusted to close to the drums, or if the adjustment shaft from the pedal to the master is too far out it will cause the lights to go on especially on hot days. try backing them off just a bit not too much though!

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Check the connector at the base of the steering column. I had a '65 doing that same thing. Turned out to be an intermittent short to power
