N.C. Bound!

I posted with you guy's a few weeks ago about us possibly m,oving to North Carolina. Well my wife got the phone calll shse was hoping to get. She was hired by Duke University and starts in November. So we're North Carolina bound pretty soon.
I have a couple of questions (imagine that)! She will be working in Durham, and we know nothing about the state at all. I need some ideas about where to look foir a house to rent. She dosen't want to drive too far for work, 30 minutes or so woulkd be it. And we're looking to be in a somewhat rural area.
I guess another question would be who like what about the state? Sorry but like I said, we know nothing about the area. We were in Durham 3 weeks ago for her interview, and the area, even the highway's are spotless
Any ideas/input would be appreciated. Who know's we may end up being neighbors.

Can't help on ya on the house issue. However, one of the best things about NC is that you got mountains and beaches within a couple hours drive.

Interesting side note, the man who founded Duke University was my mom's 3rd or 4th cousin. lol

Welcome to N.C. Glad to have another member in the Chapter. Look into Wake Forest. They have some good schools and a rural area with lots to offer in the means of stores without having to drive 20 miles. It's about 20-25 miles from Durham and it's a clear shot if you take rt.98 right into the main area. On google maps it will be to the right of Durham and just north of Raleigh. Just a Thought. But living Close to Raleigh is kinds nice, You can be at the mountains in 3 hours and at the beach in 2.5 hours. A couple of decent size lakes close by. State Parks with nature trails if your into exercising, Plenty of place to go camping or what intrest you have our State has alot to offer. Welcome to the Tarheel State.

Welcome to North Carolina.

WP gives some good info and you have a lot of options in that area. So many variables involved. Ill send you a message with my cell. Like most places there's some good spots and some places to avoid. If you live closer to wake forest/raleigh you deal with city traffic but get lots of conveniences. The commute may be easier on the roxboro side of durham. Its also still kind of rural but close enough to most shopping. Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill comprise the "triangle area." RTP research triangle park is a major business hub where most commute from other communities. RDU is the main airport in the area and is centrally located in the triangle. Ill stop here. It'll be easier to discuss over a call.

Ask more specific questions and we'll answer what we can.

Thanks fellers, so far the boss (wife) starts her new job the 5th of November. And we're struggling to find a place there to rent, and be 1,000 miles away. And I hate to leave Missouri, been here my entire life (so far). But we're looking forward to the weather versus the stuff we get into here.

Ok, here's a re-cap. The wife starts her new job the 19th of November (Gives us more time to get ready) and we have a house rented, contract signed, done deal.
We should be in NC before the second week of November.

Sounds good. Let me know if y'all need any help.

When you get settled maybe you can join in a monthly dinner. We know plenty of good places to choose from in the durham area.

Cool, thanks for the envite. Our bunch had a little get together this last weekend, but I missed it. We had our moving sale scheduled for then. Sadly I did sell my old 79 F150 (Ka'Bluey) but still have my 01 F150. By the time we get into Durham it'll have about 184.000 miles on it. Tranny shelled on me at 135k, but it's been use, it's a Ford Truck!

Hey all, hope the hurricane hasn't caused any of you too much loss...
We'll be heading that way this Sunday morning. Should be in Durham tuesday sometime late in the day. Gonna have my wife Shari, and our son Tim and I driving our own vehicles out. Gonna take it easy so we can get their in one piece safe n sound.
I'm kind of wondering if anybody know's the area we'removing too? The address is 521 Poplar, Durham NC,27703.... We're coming in blind folded, literally. No family, don't know anybody, and even rented the house on-line! How insane is that!!!!

A little wind and rain here. Nothing like up north. Rode the motorbike yesterday and today no issues.

For throwing darts, looks like a great area. I checked out the address. Don't know how your neighbors will be but for location its a nice spot. Close enough to downtown durham for the commute. Close to the outskirts of raleigh. And not far from wake forest. You are not far from falls lake either. Really pretty area. I've done a bunch of hunting, fishing, boating at falls lake. Some good back roads for riding.

Also y'all aren't far from my work. We could meet for lunch and talk about the area.

Hope y'all have a smooth trip. Keep us posted.

I will take you up on the meeting for lunch! I'm a babbler after I'm comfortable with people, so hang on. The area looked nice, not wild about being in an HOA, but we're just renting for the first year or so. That'll give us time to learn more about other areas. Right now, we know nobody, nearest family is 5 hours away (A nephew of mine). I'm looking forward to some good fishing and camping.
