no fuel

I replaced all 3 fuel pumps the selector valve and the fuel filter on my 1987 f150 and now im not getting fuel again. i cant hear the fuel pump when i turn the key but i tried and it started but i only drove like 30 feet before it killed again. Im thinking my battery and alternator or one or the other is bad and was wondering if that would have anything to do with it? could there be a bad ground? if so, where would it be? open to other suggestions. Please help!

Is it really a fuel issue? Or are you just thinking that's a possibility. If you know it's a fuel issue then I would start with a fuel pressure test and move on from there based on the results. Some possible causes other than what you've replaced......blocked filter, pressure regulator, sticking relay just for starters. If it's not a fuel issue...meaning you have good pressure then given your symptom of the top of my head a bad MAP sensor can produce a start and stall condition like you've described.

I'll have to check fuel pressure. I replaced pressure regulator and the relay. I'm not sure if another relay would be the problem and I'm not sure what one it would be. I'm not positive it's a fuel problem but when I turn the key over I usually hear the pump kick on and now I don't hear it at all. And it won't start at all anymore. Thanks for the suggestions by the way.

Let me know how you make out with the pressure test, not sure if you have a shop manual or not but that would go along way in helping you troubleshoot. if you need anymore info reply with your year and model etc...we can see if we can get you going.

The ground wire that causes this is located at the NEG post of the battery. It is a small black wire with a green stripe on it.
