Engine Swap - Parts List & Special Tools
I bought my new engine from BlackWater.
I'm going to be doing the swap at the Shade Tree DIY garage in OKC.
I will be lifting the cab off.
Will the factory engine lifting eyes work with a standard engine hoist and chains?
Edit: YES
Blackwater includes a "Complete Gasket Kit" with the engine, but don't provide a listing of what all gaskets are included. Anyone ever get a complete gasket kit and know what gaskets didn't come with the kit? Things like injector o-rings, exhaust manifold gaskets, turbo seal kit, etc. I'm sure I will need.
Edit: see below
Swap is done.
Special tools:
Front and rear crankshaft seal\sleeve Install tools
Rear: 303-770 (or equivalent)
Front 303-761 (or equivalent)
These aren't necessary you can use the adapter plate on the rear and just work the wear sleeve on tightening the bolts slowly like you would a tire. The same on the front with the crank pulley(harmonic balancer) the sleeve bottoms out and stops and they both end up pretty much flush with the front of the crank. Make sure you lubricate them with 50/50 dish soap/water.
The tools do make the whole thing easier and worry free though.
Fan clutch impact removal tool. Luckily the shop I was working at had one.
STC fitting removal tool. The transmission lines going into the bottom of the radiator require a special STC removal tool. I ended up unthreading the STC fittings, but getting them back in without ruining the thread was hard because the core leans back once the fittings are removed
~~~~~
Gaskets not included in the Victor Reinz gasket set Blackwater engines uses:
Crankshaft position sensor (CKP) o-rings
Camshaft position sensor (CPS or CMP) o-rings
All fuel bowl o-rings
All engine plugs (water, oil, fuel)
~~~~~
Things you MUST HAVE:
-Flywheel to Torque Converter Nuts (6)
-Crank Pulley or harmonic Balancer Bolts (8)
Exhaust manifold bolts and spacers (16)
-TA-29 (All data says TA-31) Motorcraft RTV sealant. This only goes at 3 way junctions of front and back covers and HPOP where engine meets back cover
I know I'm forgetting something and will add it when I remember
