4BD1T to swap out V8 triton, conversion possible?

Guys!

I was wondering if it is possible to swap out my V8 triton engine with an Isuzu 4BD1T diesel 3.9L? i really love my f350 but fuel consumption slowly takes the love out of it.. btw is there any possibility for an easy conversion? i am planning to retain the tranny and 2wd, just a straight engine swap? correct me if im wrong but will the oem/stock automatic tranny will fit and work properly with the isuzu 4BD1t? had anyone done this before? it is really a great and economical swap..

Thanks guys, hoping for your suggestions, advice and comments regarding this conversion/swap..

Unless Isuzu used a Ford specific bolt pattern on the engine the transmission won't bolt up. Getting an adapter made isn't that hard, it just takes a bunch of cash.

Inventing a computer to run the transmission is the very hard part that will take a boatload of money.

A more straightforward swap would be a a 12v cummins and trans, no computers!

Anything can be swapped into anything, just takes money and time.

I have seen WW2 plane engines in cars, I've seen car engines in planes, lawn mower engines in beer coolers, motorcycle engines in cars, car motors in motorcycles, I have even seen apache helicopter jet engines in boats. You name it, it can be done.

Hi Bathurst, welcome to FTE!

As stated above anything can be swapped into anything, but unless it was an OEM offering it'll be anything but easy. It would take lots of fabrication, and as Mark said you'd need a transmission that would work with the engine.

And for all the cash you would spend on such a swap you could buy a LOT of gas! I would probably take many hundreds of thousands of miles to achieve a fuel savings that would pay for the swap.

Best to live in an emission-test free zone before you do this. I'd try to use this Isuzu tranny for all the reasons mentioned above. A ton of work, and maybe doesn't make financial sense, but might be fun.
