HELP!!!SROD FORD 3SPEED W/OVERDRIVE
I'm currently stationed in Virginia, Navy active duty. Last year I purchased a 1983 Ford Bronco in Georgia for $1,100 with 120,000 miles. Long story short, everything inside of my T170FS-RUG is toast. Im looking to try to find anyone(NASHVILLE AREA?) that rebuilds these RUG's, but also open to all ideas, and it has already crossed my mind to just swap trans, but yet I don't have all the time on my hands as I used to; to all the research to find out what will bolt to what... I love this bronco and it kills me to just have it sitting back home in Nashville in the pasture. Just turned it over today and fired right up after sitting a little longer than two months.
Transmission, transfer case, and drive-shafts have already been pulled. I'm ready to get it back on the road! Any help I can get from ya'll FTE guys would be much appreciated.

that SROD is a trash tranny period. I recommend looking for a ZF 5speed. you can find this tranny out F250/F350's. its extremely stout with a granny low first gear like the NP435 but with the OD.
are you sure that you have 3.55 gears in that bronco. most 300-6 bronco's had 3.08 gears. also that year bronco should have a ford 9" rear in there.

I JUST removed the SROD out of my '81 Bronco. It was professionally rebuilt just a few years ago and has about 10,000 miles on it. The overdrive was just too low for me, so I didn't need it and swapped in an NP435.
The swap was a lot of work. Granted, I did more than just swap transmissions. If you do the swap, you'll also need to change your floor pan and your floor mat/ carpet as the shifters come through the floor in different places.

Send me a PM if you're interested. I have it for sale locally, but could figure out what extra shipping would be. Fortunately, they weigh less than other transmissions.
To ID the NP208, it'll have a big star with an "NP" in the center of it.
And yeah, my '84 Bronco with a 300 has a 3.55 8.8" differential. My '81 has a 3.00 9". Just depends.

Difficult trans to find parts for IMO
You realize that that trans is a car trans (hence the junk talk)
Roughly the same top loader trans my 69 Mustang has (different cut gears)
I like them and find them twice as easy to shift as an old NP trans (T18 and T19 etc.)
Those of you that have ever driven a 72 Bronco know what I mean
I would keep the truck stock and rebuild your trans of buy the one offered / find another
I scattered mine in my Boss 302 back in '81
Had a helluva time finding another one to swap the guts on so I could keep my original RUG case
Have fun and good luck
