i have a friend who says ford dummied down the 5.0 HP to sale the EGO BOOST. wonder if thats true to a point?
Wouldn't surprise me. Especially considering the 5.0 Coyote in the Mustang makes 412 HP...I know they have slightly different internals but still....it's all about marketing

Possibly. Wouldn't suprise me either if the ecoboost has been throttled back some for future plans (tell me twin turbo direct injection couldn't be applied to a big bore V8).

the mustang 5.0 and the f150 have different heads and different cam but all else is is not so different. we all know lift and duration = carbonation so a cam could be the big key but i would like to hear from some true speed tech on that! i would like to put a set of heads off a stang on my truck and see just what it would pull in the dyno room!
to OP i didn't want to still or thread jack sorry! (my bad)
The two 5.0s aren't 52hp different. Maybe 10hp different at worst....definitely marketing if you ask me.
Really? I've seen no dyno charts or any other evidence of the F150 5.0 making 402 hp.
I'm sure it could but not in stock form. I've seen it gain about 30 hp with just a 93 octane performance tune.
Until I see a dyno chart proving otherwise I'm believing there is a 52 hp difference.

Almost any OE engine these days is holding back potential power, not just the 5.0L.
The flat table top torque curve of the Ecoboost is not natural and is tell-tale sign than the engine torque is purposefully being held back with tuning. Probably doing this to ensure transmission longevity. There is a lot of power left on the table (no pun intended).
