Hi Dave, ok, there are three holes approx 1/8 diameter hole. one on each side (right and left) and one on the bottom. This is on the steering wheel it self Dave. now you are going to have to find something pretty much the same size as that hole or as snug a fit as possible to be safe. also try to use something about 6" long or so, so you have some good feel to what your doing. inside each of those holes is a spring that you will release by inserting the tool, and pushing straight in. unhook the battery for at least 15 20 minutes before you start also.!!!!!!!!! start with the bottom hole and then the side two. what you are releasing is three lugs that are attached to the back side of the airbag itself. as you push in on with your tool also try putting alittle presure on the front of the airbag to make the release a little easier.
i know this is a little long in description, but its better to know then to guess at this job.. lol.. Dave i hope this helps you..

I recently purchased a 2011 F-150 XL base trim level and want to add cruise control. Do I really have to remove the airbag? None of the airbag covers where the current trip OD info switch is located and that is where the cruise control switch goes. Local Dealers want 250.00+ to install the switch and then another 100.00 to program the computer. The istructions for the switch are only 3 pages and most of that is pictures and cautions for the airbag.
Low Series says "Using a suitable flat-bladed tool, detach the LH steering wheel switch from the steering wheel. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the
switch"
"Suitable flat-bladed tool" sounds like a screwdriver to me.
"To install the new cruise control switch, reverse the procedure."
Programing is a "drop menu" in the IDS screens and is two steps, both of which are simply "Enable". Check for DTC's and clear, self test to verify cleared codes and give it a test run.
Sounds pretty simple, can't see where it would take two hours of shop labor unless the Tech can't read.
Can anybody offer some more info or suggestions. I hate paying for "nothing service" if i don't have to. Thanks to everybody.
