I wonder - does Australia have a TOP SPEED Raceway, like Bonneville?

An international raceway in the outback. For determining the highest speed a motor vehicle can go.....

If not, I wonder WHY not - or have we not heard of it over here?

There is no doubt in my mind that Aussies are mad about flying down the road faster than anything else (if they can avoid an arrest)

This idea must have occurred to someone over there...

Aussies that value their driving licences do NOT fly down the road fast than the posted speed limits these days!

Occasionally you get a teenager flying past in a go-fast rice-burner roller skate, and quite a few times I've also seen them pulled up by the highway patrol a short while later.

The NT (Northern Territory) is a bit different though as the speed limit in the outback there is 160kmh (100mph) - maybe that's where you got the idea from!

I've always heard that the speed limit in Oklahoma (in the states) is unofficially:
"Fast as you want, until you get caught"

~But they didn't always regulate speed in the outback, did they? Has anyone over there got old stories about road trains or anything else once upon a time taking advantage of that (if true)

I also see something about test and tune at Tailem Bend Motorsport Park...

I'm speaking from general observations around here (ACT and southern NSW). I passed 4 radar speed traps and one Random Breath Testing unit between Queanbeyan and Moruya.
If you get done 4 times in 2 years you can loose your licence.

Anyone disrespecting the law would have got done 4 times in ONE 2 hour drive!

When NO LICENCE = NO JOB it's only common sense to respect the law.

Only from drivers who slow-learners!

I find thinking of it as a 'road-safety tax' helps me get my head around it better.

Funny - I remember the old movie "DRAGONHEART" with Sir Sean....

"A ROAD TAX!"

(?)

"Well, they are your roads..."

(From King Einan)

"Some are good at hunting men, some are good at hunting money. They are all of benefit to me!"
