You might also want to get a booster as well. I can't imagine bathing in brake fluid will be doing it any favors.

Good to know. I may not have to buy one though. The MC on it now is a replacement. If I remember correctly, it has a lifetime warranty, so if I can just find that pesky receipt, I should be in the clear.

Thanks.

The best way to be certain of a good fix is to replace the master cylinder. As White 97 XLT said; a rebuild kit will likely be cheaper but if the bore is pitted the rebuild will not last and you will be back to square 1 again.

Most of the parts stores will have the records in the computer so you may not need the reciept.

What he said about replacing the master cylinder. And, if the leak has been going on for a long time the rubber diaphragm in the booster may be bad.

Well, no worries on the MC or the booster.

Before disconnecting the brake lines from the MC, I disconnected it from the booster just to have a look... no evidence what-so-ever of it leaking into the booster.

So after bolting it back in place, I got under the truck, and almost immediately saw that the backing plate and rim on the passenger side rear tire were wet with oil. Pulled off the drum and sure enough the whole brake system was coated with oil from a leaking wheel cylinder.

Since I didn't have the replacement cylinder I just sprayed it down with some brake cleaner. I will just have to replace it in a couple of weeks when I have the time again.

Thanks again guys.

Brake fluid is water soluble. A garden hose will do a pretty good job of cleaning it up.

Since your shoes got soaked, you may have trouble with them locking up on you. If so, replace them, you'll never get the brake fluid out of them.
