1978 F-150 4x4 4-spd to 5-spd swap?

Hey all, I'm looking at another 78' F-150, It origionally had a 4spd trans, but now theres a small block C-6 laying in the bed...

What I'd like to do is find a newer model 5-spd and swap into it. what in all is required to do this?

The Zf-5 will go behind a 351m/400/460. Not sure if the made them for small blocks.

A 78 should be a M block. I understand it isn't too hard.

guess i forgot to mention, that somewhere along the lines someone swaped a 351-W into the truck (I have 2 W, along with 2 M blocks already, and I had 1 Cleavland, so I know the difference lol)

Thanks for the info!

Not positive, but pretty sure the 5.8 (W) was coupled to the ZF-5

There are 3 different bellhousing patterns that the ZF5 uses. The 351M/400/429/460 "big block" pattern , A 6.9/7.3 IDI & 7.3 Powerstroke diesel pattern , & the 240/300/302/351W "small block" pattern.

Joes right. I currently have a ZF5 bolted to a small block and I am loving it. I have that low first gear for when i need to tow and gained OD for improved mileage, but be prepared to spend some money. Those ZF5s are fetching some serious coin around me
