I would like to start off to say that i am a die hard FORD man.i had a 01 screw lariat with the the 5.4 for 11 years and all ive done to it was intake ,268000 miles and same alternater .i drove the hell out of it all the time .i must say i really really love that truck.well.... i decided it was about time to get a new truck.I search around for @ months or more steady to find the RIGHT one. went to a big dealer in sav. and found my new truck 08 f150 xlt ext. cab with 52000 miles on it and a great price.well signed the papers and took her home.drove it a little but have work truck so it does sit alot.Went to a friends house to watch the falcons and my buddy goes to checkout my new ride hops in it fires it up and the worst knocking you ever did not want to hear from your new ford in chevy country.i was embarres. i could not believe it .so next day took to dealer and they said "it probly got carbon biuld up "and "to bloww it out" meaning floor it from45 until you want to back off.i did that and it seem to go pretty good .nope still did it at slow speeds so i took it back to the dealer and had another service manager check it out .he didnt like what he heard either so they put me in a rental Focus,and had my truck going on 2 weeks .they called me and said i need a new motor so i was like damn .well 1 week went by ,i called them,motor was getting put in now and testing tommorrow so i can come get it the next day .dealer called me and said i need another motor #5 piston was scorched and they appolagized but it was gonna be 1 more week for the 2nd motor gets put in.now i love a Ford but damn theyve had my truck longer than i have.this sucks i hope to have better luck next time but 3 motors in a 4 yearold truck.this aint the ford i know how does all this happen when my 01 5.4 was great. Sincerly a beat up ford fan. but lets check that status out when and if i get my truck back ......... i miss my old truck

Sorry to hear about your troubles, not all 5.4L F-150s of this generation is that way. I have drove my 2006 5.4L 77K engine trouble free miles so far. My worst trouble was that my rear end went out two years ago and was replaced under extended warranty. I hope you get your truck worked out and your able to enjoy it. It maybe that the previous owner did not take very good care of it. One thing I have noticed that Ford is not kidding about what they write in their service guides.

 

The new truck has a remodeled 5.4 in it compared to your old 2001 so you really can't compare them. This certainly does suck but it should be good once they work it out. Most of the really annoying and bad problems with this generation 5.4 were worked out by the time the 2008 model was released so it sounds like the person who owned it before you just treated it like **** and fooled the dealer when they traded it in. Let us know how it all works out.

In your first post you said that you bought at a big dealer in Sav. Being in Savannah, I figured that is where you got it.

I bought a 2011 5.0 at JC Lewis back in December. 600 miles later, the engine failed due to a broken crankshaft. Long story short, I fought with them and Ford to have them replace my truck with a new one. After many more issues, Ford finally bought my old truck back and got me into a new 2012 back in May.

The guy I deal with in service is Chase and he has been very good to deal with. I don't have any complaints with him at all.

Anyway, good luck with your truck and the repair.

 

yeah chase is the man .i only had a problem with my salesman ,he no longer works there if that tells you anything.everybody else was top notch but 3rd motor in a truck with 52000 miles is more than a lil ridiclis... i will say that they are doing it with no questions...and i didnt have to argue .they put me in a rental and paid the ins. on it when my ins. would not cover it ..i just wish they didnt have it longer than i did.its been to long to go without MY truck.but hey their making it right and even got my payment date changed so hell least i aint paying for a truck that i dont have.oh yeah FORD had to come down and go over my motor so that took time to get cleared.I MISS MY TRUCK .The focus strain a lil when towing my boat and its hard to get deer blood out the trunk lol....
