TrueTrac installation in Dana 44 TTB - Springs?

Hello,

Re: 1985 F-250, Dana 44HD TTB

The Dana 44 is going into the shop for a complete rebuild. I am going to put in a TrueTrac differential. I was advised to also purchase Yukon Spring kit YSPSPR-001. If I remember right (not sure I do), this had something to do with the C-clip securing the axle not being able to fit anymore with the TrueTrac installed.

I have searched these forums and Googled the life out of this but I can’t find instructions for how or were to install these springs. Was I misinformed about needing these springs and not being able to install the C-Clip?

Rgds

The front axles do not use C-clips to retain the axle shafts. These would be used on a semi-floating rear axle setup.

Hi CB,

Thanks for the fast reply.

I do beleive that there is a c-clip used on the passenger side inner shaft that is supposed to hold it in. Its shown as item #73 on Spicer Drawing 510-9 (Ford model 44/216IFS Front Axle) and also shown on Ford drawing 15-34-3 figure 2 (Dana 44-IFS-HD-Front Driving Axle F250 (4x4)).

The very early axles like on my 1980 did not have a clip on the pass side, they had a retaining plate with 3 bolts in it. Otherwise, you are correct, the little bit later axles started using the clip on the pass side axle. The driver's side axles just pull out with no clip or plate.

Thanks for the info Dave, Sure would like to find out what the story is with the TrueTrac/C-Clip issue and these springs I was advised to purchase.

Thanks again
