thinking about buying 02 f150 xl
hey all,
not new to ford-trucks, but to this forum i am. previously had a 74 f250 which i loved but had to sale. now i'm looking at a 2002 with 144,000 miles on it. that averages out to a little over 14k a year. looks clean, drives great, need a mechanic to look at it to see if there are any underlying issues, but other than that, the truck is decent for its age. i need you guys to chime in to see what would you do in my situation? would carfacts report a engine swap or any other repairs? 2wd xl supercab model 6 cylinder model, which should help the pocket a wee bit. they want 4900, think i can talk down to 4k

Hi - I just finished buying another truck. I looked at a 03 XL V6 but they wanted $5800 even with 71K miles it was maybe only worth $4K. I ended up getting a 01 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4L.
I think the 2001-03 years are very good trucks. The one you are considering may be a bit over priced considering it's a V6. Blue book actually deducts for that. I'm not sure what carfax would show - do you suspect it has had an engine change? I would probably look for a V8, I don't think the 4.6l 2WD gets much worse gas mileage than the V6. There are lots of trucks out there and they are not selling very fast from what I see...
