sluggish, low idle, stalling at stops. 2006 f250 5.4l
Bought this truck a few months back. Nothing but problems.
I always thought it has felt a little underpowered and hesitant. I chalked it up to being a 5.4l in a f250. Well now im thinking it has been a symptom all along.
Lately, the truck has been stalling at stops. Randomly, but not often.
The truck idles at 750rpm when I start it, but after driving and then coming to a stop while in overdrive it idles at 400rpm. This seems too low to me.
It hesitates occasionally when giving it throttle. Just today it got really bad and was almost unresponsive. I would hit the throttle and it would just idle while randomly kind of shooting up in RPS and shuddering. It finally produced some error codes, it looks like, but im afraid to drive it all the way to the autozone.
Im thinking TPS. What do you think? Is the TPS attached to the pedal or is the TPS attached to throttle body under the hood? Ive read some conflicting stuff about this.
The good news is that if it is the TPS then it should act like a whole new truck after I replace it.
THANKS!

oh and ive had it in to the dealership twice already for this problem. The first time they said the alternator was bad. I had no reason not to believe them at the time so I said go ahead. $400 later....
The second time they said it was the mass airflow sensor and then they cleaned it without asking $75

Remove the air intake tubes and throttle body. Replace the gaskets and clean the throttle body. Clean the MAF sensor again, and replace the air filter if its nasty. Replace the fuel filter too. You'll need a tool to remove the filter. It should improve. Get CHEVRON fuel cleaner and run it through a tank.

Alright got it all done this afternoon. It wasn't nearly as hard as I imagined once I got started.
The throttle body was probably the issue. It wasn't super dirty but around the flapper (sorry) there was definitely a solid ring of buildup.
Truck sounds better than ever and I haven't noticed any issues since tearing it apart. Not quite a night and day difference like I was kind of expecting though.

In case, anyone was following this thread or finds it in the future. The truck had issues the next day when I drove it. It was idling down to about 250 rpm at stops, but it wouldn't stall like it was before. Apparently cleaning the throttle body had helped the stalling issue but allowed the idling issue to come to the forefront.
At this point I was pretty sure it was the throttle position sensor (TPS). I decided to just drive it to autozone and get the codes read. They were P2106 and P2135 basically codes for the TPS and the actuator on the throttle body.
I was guessing that the TPS was the culprit. However, I could get the entire throttle body for ~200 with next day air shipping which was probably cheaper than the dealership would charge to replace TPS alone. I just went ahead and ordered the entire throttle body assembly and installed it myself. It was a very easy install and im a beginner at auto repair. Honestly, the hardest thing was just figuring out how to undo the electrical hookups (hint look for tabs to push in while you pull). Took me 30 minutes max.
The truck has much more top end and is more responsive to the throttle. I think this was the problem. Ill update if necessary.

Same here
Same problem here. 04 F150 5.4. Runs great until I stop. Idles down real low and throws a code. Change entire throttle body with TPS, fuel filter, air filter and several FI cleaners. Bought used at 50K with new plugs. I have 130K. Plugs maybe? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I Need Help. Not sure how to make a new post on here yet.
2004 Lariat Ford F-150 5.4 Triton. Whenever I slow down, stop, or turn my truck will read low oil pressure, then all my gauges drops and it stalls out. I've taken it to my mechanic twice now. And twice he's replaced two sensors for $260/ each. Today I took it to Wal-Mart for an oil change and they said its probably why my check engine light is on code, T19. I've had that light on for 4 years now and this stalling out problem starts 3 months ago. So far its had regular oil changes, new air filter, two new sensors and im scraping money to throw at it. Hitting snow banks, other vehicles, and tree's... need to find the real problem before I go broke or worst kill someone in an accident. Pretty please can someone tells what's going on here.
