Tire / load / ply questions - Falken WIldpeak AT

I am getting a set of 4 Falken Wildpeak ATs put on my 2006 F250 (5.4L) tomorrow.

They are E rated tires but they only have a 118 rating. Most of the other tires I saw that were E rated were also 121. So the the tires I am getting are only rated for 2900lbs or so and not 3200 like a 121 rated tire.

The truck never really gets loaded down that heavily in the bed. I will occasionally be pulling a small bumper hitch horse trailer with the truck.

Is this going to be a problem? Should I get a 121 tire? I absolute hate the feeling of tires washing out.

That is a good question. Little off topic where are you going to buy them from? I was looking at Discount Tire and noticed that they dont have that one, but they have this one, Falken Rocky Mountain ATS.....this is the strange part on Falkens web site they dont even show the Rocky Mountain ATS???

I read somewhere that the Rocky Mountain was the same tire as the wildpeak at.

Its just some sort of renaming for marketing or sales purposes or something like that.

Ok thanks for that, sorry I cant really help you with the ratings. Have you ever used Falken before? I was looking at them but dont know why the price is so much cheaper than Nitto, Goodyear or BFGoodrich.

Rocky Mountain is a re-branded Wild Peak made exclusively for Discount tire. It is the same tire.

I have had my Falken Rocky Mountains 305/70/16 for about 5000k miles now and i tow pretty heavy with them and they do now show the weight at all and have only lost 1/16 of an inch..they are a great tire for road traction when it is raining. I recommend them..i walked out of discount at $1000 even...315s were only $5 more a tire

If you can live with losing 600 pounds of hauling or tongue weight/pin weight capacity, then they should work fine.

Thanks guys. Hotpocket it looks like your tires are probably 124 so they should definitely be good for heavy hauling.

I look into this further and I found a spec sheet on the falken website. This appears to be the tire I ordered.

LT265/70R17 121/118S E/10 3195lbs

for some reason they are listed as 121/118S. Why? Dunno. I am not sure why the guy on the phone told me that they were rated as 118 because the lbs rating is definitely equal to the 121 spec. They dont even make an E/10 ply tire with a 118 load rating in the size I ordered.

Ill definitely be checking them out before they get installed. Kind of makes me wary of getting my tires installed where someone doesn't even know how to read the spec sheet.

When the tire shows two load rating numbers, the second number is when used in a dual wheel application. So the rating is 121 on a single wheel axle but 118 each tire if on a dually axle.

I have rocky mountain ats on my truck and I have about 7000 miles on them with out any issues. They are 285 70 17's and D ply. I have had 4100+ pounds of shingles in the back without any issues and the tires held up great to the load at 65psi. I have also pulled 10000 lbs trailers, skid steers and man lifts with these tires. I will say that there is a little softness to these tires, but I don't throw my super duty into off cambers, like a race car, so it hasn't been an issue. I believe I walked out of discount tire in the mid 700 range. A price that was stellar. I also like the 3 ply sidewall!
I don't think these tires are as good as a bfg all terrain, but I saved over 400.00 going with these tires and haven't looked back. My 2 cents!

Yeah got em installed Friday. They aren't quite as good looking as Id hoped, but still a nice tire. I think I am spoiled by the fact the the truck had mud tires on it when I bought it. Mud tires just aren't practical around here in the winter though, which is why I went with the wildpeaks. Still one of the nicest AT tires Ive seen in person though.

I dont really think I can comment on anything else. They are, in fact, the 121/118s tires.
