Here goes my build thread(97 f350 Frameswap)

So we got a donor frame. it came from a 1994 f350 reg cab long bed. plan is to put it under my great truck that has a bent frame. we picked it up this weekend in crawfordsville indiana, was a 3 hour drive each way for us but it was worth it, also got a perfect condition drivers side door for 75 bucks and the frame was 300. still need to get a front clip. so here is the begining to my frame swap: Enjoy!

today i took off what was still on it which was the wiring harness, fuel lines and brake lines and gearbox. started cleaning up the frame with a wirewheel today also but it got dark so i will take pictures tommorrow

Hop on board cause this build should be a goody

I guess you are working on a diesel single wheel truck?

the frame is from a single wheel with a diesel. my truck is a single wheel with a 460. we have to change the motor mount plates out with the diesels and maybe a few other things but is supposed to work fine. mine is a 97 350. here is the link to the story behind why i'm doing this hahah

He bent the frame on a 460 SRW one ton hitting a tree or light post in the rain (IIRC). It was a really nice looking truck, but tweaked the whole frame. I'm guessing you can tell by the cross member that this frame was from a diesel?

Engine perches were a dead giveaway.

And personally speaking, I would NOT waste your time wire wheeling. Since the frame is stripped to NOTHING, have it sandblasted and give it 2 good coats of POR15

haha figured you would notice that, i know your really knowledgable around here. but as for wirewheelin its my only option. nobody my uncle knows has a blaster we could borrow and not gonna pay to have it done, its on my time anyways so i dont mind i have nothing to do until my por-15 gets here as it is

what exactly is the benefit other than saving time, i know it gets everything off but so does using a grinder and wire wheel if you take your time and do it right

I'd bet the cost of the wire wheels you're gonna go through plu the time would make it worth paying for it to be sandblasted.

Sandblasting generally gives a better result. More even, less scoring of the metal and it can get into hard to reach places like corners, cracks, holes ect. better than a wire wheel. I would trust Brad on this one. All the trucks he rebuilds turn out flawless. Yes it will cost more, but you won't regret it in the end. Just my $0.02...

NOTHING will get RID of rust nor give the metal the "bite" better than sandblasting

A mobile sandblaster can do your frame in about 2 hours and for about 2-300.

If you take it somewhere, it will take about an hour and should be between 100-200.

TRUST me, I have done the grinder with wire wheel thing, and then I discoverd sandblasting. I dont even pickup a grinder with wire wheel any more
