Winter Tires for an 06 Expedition XLT?

I'm the new owner of an '06 Expedition XLT. I want to buy some winter tires for the Expedition and need some advice on what to buy (this is my first "truck"). I live in the city and commute for work, but also do some highway driving, especially to visit family 6 hours away. So, normally I'll be dealing with icy conditions more than snow, but depending on snowfall may deal with snow as well. I plan on changing tires spring and fall. Oh, and we have a long winter season where I live, so the winter tires will likely be on the Expedition from mid to end of October until sometime late in March, early in April so durability is a consideration.

Any advice? Thanks!

BFG A/T are very good in the mud and snow. I had them on my wife's Exploder and we had a pretty heavy snowfall and the truck did just great. Glare ice is a problem for any tire unless you have studs in them. The noise factor was very acceptable on dry roads too.

This forum and another convinced me last year for Michelin LTX MS2 last year. All I can say is absolutely amazing, the difference on snow between them and all seasons is absolutely amazing.

Living in Southern California where the terrible winters may get down to 50 deg, the only thing I got to worry about is having air in the tires

I have put over a half million miles on Michelin LTX/MS tires and love them. I drive 50k miles per year for work in the midwest regardless of weather, I cover 6 states for my company.
Micheline LTX MS2s recommenede, They stay balanced, ride smooth and quiet and in snow/ice they grip well. They work great in wet weather.
One caveat, if they are over 4-5 years old replace them even if the tread looks good, because after 4-5 years the rubber dries out and gets hard, won't grip in cold, but I think that is true with most tires. Cheers.

Michelin LTX A/T2 stronger edge bite....very agressive. I live in Colorado and my wife drives 45 miles each way into the foothills for work. Excellent in snow but all tires will not be good on ice unless you stud them. Very comfortable on the highway at 75 too.

I have a couple thousand miles on a set of these:
Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61

All season, yet a branded severe snow tire. Quiet, but have not tried them in the snow.
