300 six cam bearings! need answers!

for the second time in this rebuild process i have run into the same issue, the cam bearing kits i have ordered contain two different size bearings, i am at college now and my dad is putting the engine back together and just today he told me the second kit he just installed did the same thing. the cam wont slid in past the outer bearing, yet before he installed the bearings, they all slid onto the cam just fine,

i have heard once that some of these blocks were machines with different bores so the cam bearings are two different sizes in one engine, however on my engine the OEM bearings we removed were all the same part number,

so has anyone ran into this problem and if so do they now of a good place to order the bearings from, summit racing is wrong and our local napa store in BF Egypt Craig alaska got the wrong ones as well, im going to stop in at our napa here in anchorage as they should have a better knowledge of the parts books, anyways sorry for the long story but i figure all the info i can get out will get me a decent amount of info back

the engine is out of a 1985 f150 and believed to be the original but not for sure

The block needs to be checked to make sure the cam bores are in alinement. Do you have a engine rebuilder/machine shop near, that your dad can take the block to have it checked. Blocks can warp slightly and make cam instalation difficult. The block can be corrected by line boring the cam bores.

sealed power from summit racing first, and then napa got us another sealed power set the second time, part number: 1781m

yes, ran into a problem of getting the cam into the bearing. I had to use 1000 grit w/d sand paper and 'sand' the leading edge of the bearing to get the cam in. It scared the heck out of me. But it worked, and research showed they employ something similar in the factory.

1985-87 Ford 300 CID (4.9L) Engines
The Form Motor Company has revised the cam bearing housing bore on
Ford 300 CID (4.9L) engines manufactured after June 4th, 1985.
Previously all four housing bores measured 2.1440. The late style
block with the casting number E1TE-6015AA, has the following cam
bearing housing bore dimensions:
Location Part # Bore Diameter
1 E5TZ-6261A 2.1590
2 E5TZ-6262A 2.1440
3 E5TZ-6262A 2.1440
4 E5TZ-6261A 2.1590

AERA members are cautioned to check each cylinder block's cam
bearing housing bore for positive identification.

At this time the revised design cam bearings are available only
through Ford Motor Company. They will be made available through the
aftermarket during the 4th quarter of 1987.

the late model block matches the number my dad gave me off the block, so if installed correctly the kit should be right as there are two bearings with one part number and two with another in one kit, so i will relay the idea of sanding/emery clothing the bearing, and see if it slides in,
