Response withdrawn because I'm pretty sure that the OP is trolling.

What do you mean by "pooting through a sock"? Every Powerstroke with modified exhaust that I've heard whistles, and that's most of what you hear. I don't get where you get "pooting through a sock". The Cummins engines generally sound like what I refer to as a "dirty fart" or a "wet fart". I have a lot of respect for the Cummins, they just don't sound good, typically. I have heard a few that sounded good, and they had modified exhaust, and ended up sounding exactly like tractors. As for the GM 6.2L/6.5L. I know a hardcore GM fan who is also a agricultural mechanic who says that they're junk.

I'm not questioning you, just more stating that my experience doesn't match yours.

Don't take my previous response personally, but this board has been trolled before.

Edit: For what it's worth, I don't really care what exhaust sounds like and I would drive a clean 12V Cummins in a heartbeat!

I think it's all just preference. I would say the cummins sounds more like "pooting through a sock". I'm not a huge fan of the way they drone at low to mid rpm's. I love the clackity sound the powerstrokes make, and from a distance when someone is getting on them they can sound similar to a gas v8. IMO they have more of that rumble than the cummins does. Again though, all just personal preference.

I know with mine whistles all the time. When i get on it at 3000 all i hear is greatness. i like the small lope mine has as well.
As for the cummins, they sound like farts at idle. and at take off they sound the same way. IMHO

To answer the OP question the reason the PSD sounds like that in low rpm's is the turbo doesn't light off till around 1800-2000 rpm's

I guess the poot through a sock wasn't a good description for you as it seemed to offend you or raised your Troll radar.

Secondly I myself wouldn't call someone out as a troll until I were sure, but hey that's just me........... I'm different like that...
When you say something "sounds like crap," it usually implies that you don't like the sound. That's why I thought you didn't like it.

Secondly, I'm still not sure that you're not a troll.

I'm joking, but you should know that when you come into a board with an extremely low post count and extremely recent join date and open up with a post like that, it seems pretty trolltastic.

Also, while I consider myself a Ford Truck enthusiast, I am definitely not committed to that brand exclusively. I'm not a big believer of brand loyalty in anything. When it comes to cars and trucks, I like most of them.

I don't know if its the video, but your 5 inch pipe sounds good, nothing like mine, yours has the v8 sound all the way up.

Mine does that puffing all the way to about 1700 where it starts to make some good boost then it sounds something like yours , the note cleans up but it is not that deep sounding like yours.

The pipes on mine were on it when I bought it, I just added the down pipe. The boy I bought it off of added the huge tip on it too. I really not fond of it either. It may be part of the sound puffing down low.

I hate to say it but I do kinda like the cummings with a straight pipe sound.

The Cumings have a clear clean exhaust note. Even with the 3 inch down pipe and straight pipe put the back in 4 inch mine sounds like crap.

A V8 gas engine sounds sweet but a six cylinder gas sounds like crap.

I heard a turbo GM 6.5 turbo that sounded like a gas V8.

Just curious why you guys think they sound like they do.
7.3 has turbo noise, something like a mixture of Fergie and Jesus. Mostly space age tech.

While you have a Cummins and it would be reminescent of Rosie Odonnell screaming full bore into a tin barrel, with some cats and ball bearings and maybe some wrenches thrown in there and mixed all around. My point is obnoxious as hell. Pretty primitive, but really reliable which is why retards can do the things they do with them.

The 6.5 and Duramaxes do sound sweet my buddy and his dad run them and I like them.
