I now have a bumpside

I have been a member of FTE since 1998. I have a 54 F100 I have owned since 1977. Bought it from my Grandfather. He bought it new. I have retired as a teacher and a soccer coach after 33 years. I am doing some yard work and small landscaping. I have been looking for an F350 dump for some time so I don't keep adding more scratches and dings to my 1954. I wanted a dump bed to help unload mulch and brush... My first choice would have been a 53-56 flatbed dump. But I found this 1970 F350 just south of Pittsburgh, about 175 miles away. I needed a running working truck since my '54 is not running right now. I did not want another project.

It has a 12 foot bed and a longer wheel base than I wanted, but it was a bargain I could not pass up. It has a 360. The PO added power steering and a bigger radiator. It used to be a stakeside but the bed was in bad shape and the PO rigged up the bed sides you see in the pics. The original stake side headboard is still there but he beefed it up with 2 x 8's. It runs good; gave me no trouble on the 3 hour plus trip home; cruised at 65 on the interstate.

I am pleased and happy and I guess I will be spending some time on the Bumpside forum as well as the Fatfendered forum....

Nice. Be prepared to help family, friends, neighbors etc.... I'd like to have one of those dumps someday.

Just tonight I discovered my 1970 F350 has some electrical gremlins.

Here is a description of the problem: The taillights do not work; brakelights do work. The rear turnsignals do not work when the headlights or parking lights are on. The rear turnsignals do work when the lights are not on. If I have the turnsignals on and I turn on the lights the rears don't work of course but the front turnsignals are on a steady bright like the flasher is stuck and the green arrow indicator in the instrument panel is on and not flashing. The marker lights on the bed do not work at any time. The previous owner said he recently rewired the bed lights...

All of the lights worked 2 nights ago. Today I washed the truck and cleaned out the inside. I don;t think I bumped any wires...

Also, I don't think this is related but the clearance lights on the roof come on only when the ignition switch is on. Is this stock?

Thanks, abe

Stay grounded...

That sounds like a grounding problem: Either a loose screw where the ground circuit is attached to the body and/or frame but more likely a problem in a lamp socket. The metal barreled sockets used in those days are notorious for rusting out. Replacements are readily available from the usual suspects.

I went out to the truck when I got home this evening. Turned on the lights and they all worked including the bed marker lights... turned the ignition switch and all lights still were on... turned on the turnsignals and they both worked... brakelights worked... started the truck and all of the above still worked...

So... I might have gotten something wet when I washed the truck or bumped a wire when I cleaned the interior... or the gremlins had their way for a night and left...

Any advice or suggestions?
