Transmission leak

My transmission decided tO blow it's nose down the road today, transmission leak... It's at the rear between the xfer case and transmission. Xfer case is pretty dry on top but from the transmission back is nice and oiled up again. Can't tell if it's the seal or that shifter motor deal at the bottom. Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help! Just learning how to use one of these here I telephones so I don't know how to post pictures off of it but will tomorrow. Thanks buds.

Have you looked closely at the end on the vent hoses (trans and transfer case) on the top of the trans? They clip to the top of the case ribs. It could have puked some out there and run down.

Muekster, I am 99.9% sure thats not the issue, the top sides of both the transmission and transfer case were both dry.
Bad this is im pretty sure this happened while the transmission was cold too.. right when i left work and got on the road i heard what sounded like air comming out of a compressor hose (whoosh), so if that was it then it blew out pretty good when it happpened and by the time i got home then 30 minutes later when i found it there wasnt a leak, so its onl leaking while engaged, not while just sitting there.

Ok it still doesn't look like a seal leakin but the vent hose at the transfer case connection is split about 3/8" and was wet and cruddy too. But I'm at the bottom of my dipstick for transmission fluid. Do they feed each other somehow??

New find... About 2 extra quarts of fluid in the transfer case, guess the input seal is out? Goin to ford monday unfortunately. Gotta have my work horse... Is the input seal on the transfer case pull able from the front or do u have to split the case?

Ford cant find the problem, says the seal is fine. Cant find any other leaks. Could the transmission breather hose be plugged and forced fluid into the transfer case??? They want to keep the truck over night and see if anything starts to leak. Said they drove it about 25 miles and nothing is wrong... any other ideas???

OK so the final fix after me and ford got on the same page (long story) the verdict was definately the input seal on the transfer case was bad. $350 later my 299,000 mile truck is burning up the highway once again leak free.
