97 f-350 convereter

My truck shifts fine the first time then it will shift fine from first to second and it shifts into third and the converter locks and it lugs the truck and it does the same in od any ideas?

That's what it is designed to do. The best solution if it bothers you is to get a chip that will firm up those shifts and adjust the shift points.

The stock shift pattern is 1-2-3-TC lock-4 (with the TC locked).

I have a superchips on it but i have not seen any shift opiions.When the converter locks it hit hard and knocks about 1500 rpms out it and it lugs hard.Thanks for the responce

Try running it without the Superchips. See if it acts any different.

If the O/D cancel button was flashing there would be a code we could pull but I am thinking that it is shifting like it should. If it is not flashing, then I don't think the trans is hurt, I just think you have some other issue making drivability suffer a little.

Maybe unhook the MAP sensor's electrical connector (near the blower motor under the hood and has a hose going to the intake manifold) and see if it shifts any different that way. If the engine is down on power it will make the transmission shift funny.

I will try unhooking map sensor and see what that does I have replaced the turbo,glow plugs (had to remove the head to get one out that was broke) cpm sensor,throtle pedal sensor,all fuel lines around filter,and fuel filter,all 3 idler pulleys and I still have a gralwing noise when it lug any at all just anytime your not givin it fuel. Have not figured that out yet either..lol

Do you have an aftermarket downpipe? I would look closely at how much room there is between the DP and the firewall if you do. If you don't have a 1/2" or so it is possible that it is contacting the pinch weld on the firewall and making that noise for you.
