thinkin bout buying a 94 but has tranny issues

hello all. im thinking about buying a 94 f 140 4x4 with a e 4od but it has some issues. if you put it in drive with or without the overdrive it seems to start in 3rd gear. first will not work and neither will last gear but second will if you put it into 2nd. the guy tried changing the entire transmission and the new one did the same thing and he gave up on it. just wondering if anyone has any ideas. im sure its an electrical or computer thing but would just like to know where to start.

First off, that E4OD is completely computer controlled.. That said, you need to pull the DTC codes and get them all taken care of, any bad sensor can and usually does cause trouble.. Since the second transmission did the same thing as the first it's pretty clear it is not a true trans problem...

Another thing to watch out for is the wires at the connector on the passenger side of the trans, the wires have a problem with the insulation shrinking and exposing the wires causing short circuits...

Good luck with it!!!!!

Wouldn't hurt to pull the computer out and verify it's the correct one for your year truck and transmission combo too !!!
