89 F250 problems with rear fuel tank
I have a 1989 F250, fuel injected 351, with factory dual gas tanks. The problem is that it will only run for about 4 minutes off of the rear tank. I have replace the switch valve, sending units in both tanks, high pressure pump, fuel pump regulator. I have also cleaned out the fuel lines, checked the voltage on the rear tank(12 volts). The fuel rail pressure is about 32 PSI for both tanks. The rear pump will still run for a few seconds after the truck stumbles out. To restart it, you have to switch to the front tank, and then it starts right up. But when you switch to the rear tank, it dies in about 4 minutes. Any answers would be great! Please help!

If I am reading this correctly, even with new pump inside the rear tank, it stops after only a few minutes.
Also, the pump (in the original post) is still running after the fuel flow stops. This would indicate a blockage somewhere.
There was another post on here that reported a kink in a return line. I would try to verify that the fuel supply and return lines are open from the rear tank to the point where they are common with the front one.

You know my 1990 xlt was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the selection switch on the dash. 25 dollars at dealership or 2 bucks at a salvage yard. Both tanks switch now and both indicate fuel correctly. Pull switch out, unplug and check the plastic below the metal prongs inside, look to see if it looks melted anywhere. Should be flat on the bottom. good luck

the power to the pump is turned on and off via a fuel pump relay switch, not the one on the frame .its conected to the fuel presure switch or the canister .in other words when you turn the key on a switch sends power to the fuel pumps for a few seconds to get fuel pressure up, the relay might be bad or loose connection.youll have to get a wiring diagram to find the relay.or it could be your fuel tank switch.
