1960 Ford Dana 44 closed knuckle rebuild
#31
So I pulled my axle apart today and am pleasantly surprised at the heavy duty differences btwn my axle and the donor I got. See the pics. The axle is thicker starting near the U joint and the ball itself is much thinker than the doner. Once again all I was really after was the knuckle and steering arm which looks great from the donor. Would mine be considered the Dana 44 HD?
Looks like I need to find some bearings and seals and get to work putting this all back together.
My axle
Donor Axle
Axle comparison.

I know your dealing with a closed knuckle dana but it looks like you have 2 different models at the least. I would clean all the stuff up and test fit your donor parts with the old bearings just to make sure its gonna work. I quess you could take the new parts back if it wont but why make a bunch of trips to the parts store. Just my opinion?
Glad you found the lock rings.
