Anyone know...

Anyone know what the torque value for the fuel tank
sender lock ring is? I found the right tool for it and I
will be going about the O-ring replacement because it
it is weeping fuel. I know that you can use an index mark
but having the torque value would be a better option I feel.

Thanks
Sean

Not sure how you can measure the torque value on that sucker? I used a strap wrench, a screwdriver and a hammer to tap it tight..... Strap wrench was pretty much useless to torque it down. I justed marked location before taking it off (counting the rotations... which I believe was only 2) and the when I put it back on I just tightened a bit more than was marked.... Worked great and no problems or leaks!

Here is the reason I asked

I checked with a reseller and they say that this is the right tool
for the job. I did not spend a bunch for it and I can sell it after
I am done or not. But it has the 1/2' drive hole so I can use a
torque wrench if I want to. I am replacing the bad O-ring.
so I would like to get it back on right. You never know what the
former owner did. They may of left it loose.

Wow..... Wish I had known about that when I harpooned my tank... I spent $80 on an extra long strap wrench that sucked for that application.

Well I gave up in searching the internet and called
my Local Ford Store. The plastic ring on the plastic tank
goes on @ 60Ft/Lb if you have the tool. That is a bit more
than I was guessing at.
But now we know.

Snuggy..... I would get that tool as well. It's a giant pain in the *** to get the threads on straight for that cap nevermind trying to tighten it up to a torque spec! I wish I had of had one.... If i ever have to go into that fuel tank again, you can bet I will be getting one!

I harpooned my tank on a July day here in FL - I did not need the microwave trick - it was already hot as hell - it went on quite easy, but I guess the heat helps quite a bit. I used a rubber mallet and a huge flat head screwdriver to tighten and loosen. Got it to just about 60ft lbs

That is a cool tool

60Ft/Lb Sure,
How much for the swampland? Oops I hear that some
really did go up in price.

But all kidding aside if I did not have the tool I would do the same
July in FL I bet it could of been cooler in the microwave.

I totally agree here. Plastic fuel tanks and o-ring will both swell giving you a bogus torque value to put it back on. Using Cheezit's method will give you great results getting the plastic nut back on. Torque is totally useless here. Why would you want to anyway?????
