I tow a boat 5,500# and a travel trailer 7500#. The only hauling is a wheeler and the usual home destruction stuff. I seem to put on about 10-12k a year. Probably 30% with a trailer on the back. Looked real hard at the diesel. Don't think I put enough miles on to get it to pay out. But man what a cool ride...

Upgrading from a 08 1500 CC LTZ MAX. The chev has plenty of power but feels weak in the tranny. The body is very thin. Every rock seems to leave a ding, mirrors too short, 5.5ft bed is useless. Can't put the wheeler in the back and shut the gate. Hwy 16 twn 14 tow boat 9.5 tow TT 8.5.

Hoping new SD will get a little better mileage than the chev. Looks like it may be close if i can hold the fun meter back. With the new truck I will install an over the bed rack for hauling 2 wheelers or a pair of snow machines.

I may just be better off ordering a SD this spring, no FoMoCo sales incentives, but I have an X plan so it hurts a little less. If the ordered SD has a front end shake, it will not be a good day for me or dealer.

Regards,
Dave

Did you have a tune on the chevy by chance? The chevys transmissions feel like crap from the factory because of the tune. My brother had his LTZ max tuned and the trans shifts like normal if not a bit hard now. Stock the tune decreases power and sloppily shifts gears, makes it feel like a slush box.

It might help to spend some time down in the western regional chapter (AK, OR, WA are all represented), someone may have better input there.
