Hey all, I have a 04 FX4 scab with a 5.4L and am having issues with it idling rough, and low power and stumbling upon accel and cruiseing speed. I did a scan and the codes show lean run condition, misfire on cyl 4, etc. I changed injector and coil on #4 and it seems worse. Scared to change the plugs, until I can leave the truck down a day or two in the event that I break one or more. Any other suggestions?

 

i think thats about it. be thankful you got a code - me, like a lot of others, are chasing this problem with no codes.... i just changed all my coils @$130 a pop, we'll see today how she runs ....plugs will be next

Holy ***** that's heavy! I paid $84 for my coil from Ford.... I suggest finding a different parts supplier if theyre going to treat you like that. I've always called them stealers instead of dealers but you prove my point!

Yeah man.. I paid $110 for mine.. It's really retarded like shawn said, at least you got a code

 

so ... bit of an update. I did all 8 coils, and the truck actually feels good, but my edge tuner is picking up a spark alert every once in a while. So .... kinda fixed, but not a 100%....if I didnt have the tuner i would say I'm 100% though, so I'm going to drive it and see if the performance deteriorates at all.

thoughts on that?

 

I'd guess plugs are due, as you suspected as well. You changed everything else....

 

ya, but the plugs were new 60k km's ago, so they really shouldnt need it yet .....

 

is it missing bad at idle like rocking the truck

 

no, not really. idle is slightly rough, and if my evo tuner was telling me there was spark issue i would never feel it. 2 days in and still feels good. probably gonna order plugs anyway, cuz its just money right? ha ha

 

wouldn't hurt just make sure you have the extractor tool in hand before you start
