Johnny Langton (FTE Member) Was Killed by Texting Driver

It is with great sadness that I discovered that Johnny Langton (FTE Member) was killed by a 22 year old female who was texting and driving. From Johnny's FB page, it appears that this occured on December 28th, 2011. Johnny was a great resource to the FTE community and a great person as well. He will be greatly missed...

Here is Johnny's FB Page:

He was one of those guys that had a wealth of knowledge and shared it with us all. That's too bad.

As a police officer, I am seeing more and more rear end accidents with no attempt made to steer away and no skid marks. In other words, they weren't looking. No one admits to texting, but it's clear that they were distracted by a cell phone or other device. Smart phones have made this problem much bigger.

If any of you find yourselves staring at your phone screen while driving, remember Johnny and put it down.

I remember his name popping up in threads. Thats really sad. These phones are destroying our lives in many ways.... I see soo many people with their eyes glued to their phones and not look up to the road for 20-30 seconds! Put down the distractions and grab the wheel. I'm most certain any conversation had can wait until you get out of the car.

Texting while driving should carry the same penalty as a DUI. Both KILL!! In the event of an accident, police should have the right to search the phone and see text and call times and if time matches up to accident time, BINGO, BUSTED! Loss of license for 3 months and permanent record on license. Its time to crack down. Calls can wait.

What DID we ever do before cell phones.

.
Is there any real attempt to check into cell phone records when these accidents happen to determine if texting was an issue, or is that just another internet rumor? Maybe it's only for fatalities?

I remember that, but can this really be brought up too many times? I see these idiots on the road every day, off in la la land texting while trying to drive.

I remember reading about this awhile ago, and it really got to me as I've had several exchanges with Johnny over the years. It was previously discussed here:

Man I wondered why he has not been around for a while. I talked to him on the phone for about an hour the other year about tuning. It is nice to see a face to go along with the voice. It is a real shame. I will miss him around the forum for sure. I wish his family the best.

PS - I hope that drunk texting bitch is rotting in jail.
