4x4 question

Sorry to beat a dead horse and Yes i read the everything you need to know article till it made my eyes bleed.. i'm tring to follow along. My problem is my right front axle (cv shaft) when in 2wd and engine running will not turn, everything else will as it should. in 4wd engine running nothing moves... if i jack up tire engine off right side makes a clicking noise kinda like the wheel of fortune wheel (from the tv show) <<<just in case

4WD does not work when engaged, by that i mean they dont pull like there not locked in....

Thanks in advance for and comments or suggestions..

1. Have you checked all the lines to ensure they hold Vacuum pressure? (especially the ones to the right wheel)
2. You are saying the left side works OK? It (left) does work in 2WD and 4WD? Or do both sides not work in 4WD?
3. From your description of the right wheel turning/clicking with the engine off, it sounds like the right side IWE has failed internally. With the engine off the wheel should not rotate at all- the IWE has a spring inside it that should engage the IWE teeth to the splines of the wheel when the engine is off.

1. No but im in the process of tring to borrow the check gauge from a co worker...
2. In 4wd neither tire pulls in 2wd engine running you can turn cv shaft (left side only)
3. im thinking that it is the IWE im just tring to make sure before spending the money for a new one.. is there anyway to tell if its bad if i take it apart?

On a side note Does the ABS light being on have anything to do with it, I wouldn't think so just asking... Codes were pulled and it said both front sensors are bad... and they are a little pricy for what they are....

You need a vacuum tester to be sure about the IWE... My right side one had failed internally and I could not make it compress by hand (when it was removed from the hub). The IWEs are about $80 apiece if you buy online from one of the sellers like Silverstate, etc. Add about $50 if you buy from the local dealer.
Here's a link for the replacement process... Pictures and tool list, etc.

I doubt the ABS has anything to do with the 4x4 issue.

The 4x4 light not coming on is another issue. Maybe the shift motor is sticking. That item is on the transfer case. They can stick/jam sometimes if not used regularly. You can try tapping on it with a hammer HANDLE or something similar. It sticks in the same fashion as a starter solenoid... if you are familiar with that issue (works the same way).
