Should I sell it as-is or part it out?

Thanks for looking,

I'll try to keep the story short but approximately 9 months back the engine went on my '00 2wd V10 Excursion. Seeing as it was just an extra vehicle I wasn't too concerned and a search led me to sourcing a replacement engine via Craigslist. It was non-local and reasonably priced so I bit the bullet.

This turned out to be a mistake as I ended up getting scammed out of $1500. Obviously frustrated but nonetheless deterred I ended up finding one at a somewhat local salvage yard and dropped another $1800 for a low-mileage engine.

In the interim the truck is at my local Ford dealer with the old engine pulled and ready to go. I finally get a call this past week and the news wasn't good. Turns the the new(ish) replacement engine is toast as well.

With that being said i'm just done with the truck. I've already purchased a replacement tow rig and simply do not have the motivation to repair it. Looking at my options it's either selling it as-is or parting it out. The trouble i'm having at this point is trying to determine an accurate value.

The truck (as mentioned before) is an '00 XLT 2wd with 137k miles. The previous owner installed a 6" lift and it also currently has a set of 20" KMC's wrapped around 325/60/20's (that are due for replacement soon. Body is relatively rust free but the paint has seen better days and the passenger fender is slightly dented.

What would be the general consensus on the forum, part it out or try to sell it as it sits? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Matt

Bad rounds of luck. I would say to sell it "as is". You have already dumped to much money into it that you know you won't get out. There are too many people looking for Excursions out there and there is a limited quanity. So if you can sell it to a guy down on his luck financially but with the talent to fix a V10 or to a guy that wants a fummins its a win win for the Excursion. Plus I would cringe seeing that in a scrap yard.
