To look at the axles there identical the mounting is the same they look identical but obviously different gear ratio and ones 4" longer then the other. Im gonna pull the diff cover and go from there

Well guess he'll have to look but I know my 87 (single rear) has the VSS in the rear dif, think it be fairly safe to assume his does too?

Sounds to me like a bolt in affair, no mods or changes needed to anything including getting the speedo working. And will need the speedo, doesn't need to see it but needs the POSM working. And can correct for tire size if needed, ability to do so hasn't been used up already. Enough correction make up for any slight differences in tone ring same time?

Put an 8.8 in it there the best, most of all the 8 lug version. They'll handle anything, I read that here on this forum so we know it's true.

no such animal. all cab chassis trucks were dual wheel.

if it was single rear wheel, it was a pickup without a bed.
dual rear wheel rear axle was 4 inches wider than a single rear wheel axle to compensate for the dual wheels.
