Stuck rotors anyone?

While doing my rear brakes, we struggled to get the rotors off. They were on there pretty good. Hammered and everything, no luck. So we improvised. It worked well.

Also, now that I have new rotors and pads in the rear, they squeak a LOT. Any way to fix this? They do it more when they are dusty (from trails, not brake dust) but seem to always squeak no matter what.

I usually get em by banging with a 3lb hammer. But I to had one I lost patience with. I busted out a 8" 3 jaw puller. Worked like a charm. Same puller does the hub assembally easily as well.

I believe the squeaking will go away once you get a little wear on em

Did u use brake lube on all the contact points on the pads and hardware and calipers and pads???? If u used semi metalic they will sometimes squeek a little anyways.

BRAKE SQUEAK

Brake squeak is usually caused by hard brake pads. Either get a spray can of commercially available anti-squeak compound, or coat the back of both inner & outer pads with some brake lube grease. Anything that absorbs vibration will quiet them down. The idea is to insulate the pads from the calipers--No metal to metal contact.

Did you do the bed in procedure to "burnish" the pads?

I use disc brake quiet, new anti-rattle clips, springs and bed the pads in when I'm done. No squeaking.

My rear rotors were stuck fast. Hit around the hub to loosen the rust and smacked the outer rotor a couple times with a hammer. I was not using the old rotors so did not care if they got damaged.

The bed in process will help with the noise. I had the same problem then went through the bed in process and it helped a little so I did it again, huge difference the second time around. They still make a little noise but no where what they used to.

I wish I would have thought of that. I actually busted my rear rotors by hammering them off. I had new ones so I wasn't too concerned, but that looked a whole lot easier.

Very cool method. Thanks for sharing that with us.

+1 on the pad bedding process. Here is a paper that discusses the bedding process and the science behind it.:

I would be more worried a bout tweaking the axel
with the uneven force.

The anti squeal stuff was not used.. didnt think it would make that big of a difference. Guess I'll have a tube on hand for ever brake job I do from now on...
