I'm building a 66, same basic body but a falcon front end.
It now has a 5.0, 5 speed, sway bars front and back, flowmaster 2 1/2" exhaust, Headman header,Eldelbrock 600 carb and performer manifold, 3.25 gears. On the Hot Rod Power Tour last the car averaged over 20 mpg and over 25 mpg on the hiway. Have fun building and driving your car.

Welcome to FTE

No Borg Warner T-10's in Fairlanes after 1965. As original, it would have had a Ford 4 speed top loader.

btw: The correct way is: Mechanical work first, paint/body work second, interior last.

If you restore it the way you've planned, the new interior could get greasy...or worse.

well the body is done and painted, interior is probably 90 % done, the car came with a three speed from the factory, the guy i bought it from installed the bw t-10, im not building it to resale or anything like that, im building to go 1/4 mile at a time, it should b a fun project. im probalby 6-10 months away from my goal, then when im done with it ,who knows ill probably build something else, thanks for the info though, dave

67 Fairlane Ranchero 500XL Rear Suspension

Hi FTE,
I just picked up a 67 Fairlane Ranchero 500XL 390/C6. I am going through the entire vehicle. Started & finished the front end brakes & suspension. Im now beginning the rear suspension. I cannot see where you access the upper rear shock mounts . Please dont tell me there is an access panel in the bed. Previous owner had bed Rhino Lined and i'm sure it is not easy stuff to remove;.

Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

Shock mounts to bracket below spring pack, then thru hole in crossmember. There's no upper shock bracket. Above the hole, just bushings, nuts and washers.

Shown here: 1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 54 / Page 4.

This catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com

Unfortunately for you, there is a large access panel in the floor of the bed that accesses the top of the shock absorbers.
