How bad is the leak? If it ain't to bad, just drive it and keep an eye on the fluid. Then when it gets to bad, pull it out, and have the whole tranny rebuilt while it's out.

However, this is where us van guys can laugh at the truck guys here for tranny removal, everything can be done from inside, and to be honest, is pretty easy. I did it in my motorhome, without a tranny jack, made my own using my normal floor jack.

As for replacing the seal it self, can't help you there. Some others will chime in.

right now its about a drop a second or so; with the car just sitting i lose about a quart a day. will be much easier/cheaper to deal with if i just keep filling it up until i get home in a few days (where I have a friend who can help me fix it), but i'm worried that it will all of a sudden get really bad while i'm driving, i'll gush oil and i'll mess up the tranny. if thats a ridiculous worry than i'm gonna just stock up on oil and wait till i get home...

Oh ok that's pretty bad a quart a day. My '89 F150 leaks about a quart a year so i'm not gonna bother with it.

I'd go ahead and take the tranny out and do it. What's the mileage on it? And i've never heard of the seal going bad while driving to the point you'd run low on oil.

With that much fluid loss, replace the pump bushing and pump seal.
