looking to buy a 96 f150 AUTO tach.

I want the cluster for the tach, but fear since its an auto cluster it wont be a direct swap. I dont want to take anything apart. just want to chuck the non tach cluster out and plug the new one in. thanks in advance guys!

The only things you will have to do is remove two screws, take out the gear indicator, put your blank one from your current cluster and of course, swap your PSOM.

2X on that. As long as its a 96 cluster going into a 96 truck, its all plug and play. The engine wire harness tells the tach which engine it has(6 or 8) as long as its not a diesel tach! That opens up a new can of wiring.

X3 I've done it with the same year and setup. Works just fine.

I'm glad he posted this question.
I have a 97 f250hd 460 awd no tach, so can I just drop a cluster in that has the tach?
That's it no wiring?

I recall a 97 f250/f350HD will swap directly with 96. Other years(92 to 95) will require pin swapping of the harness to the 96 cluster. There is a thread that tells all about the various years and how to use them.

I even swapped a tach cluster from a F-series into my 95 E-series van(bus conversion) to get the tach. That did require pin swapping and adding a tach wire to the coil. So anything is possable.
