IS "Did ford make a 5 speed for f-150" a trick question?

Ford made an F-150 w/5 speed, but I'm not sure Ford made the 5 speed.

So you don't care if Ford made the 5 speed?

Point was at least 1 Ford 5 speed was made by Mazda & that tranny has been raked thru the coals here more than once.

Ford's 5 speeds were Mazda, good for light work, some issues with leaks and like everything else, they do wear out.

And ZF, better for heavier work, but like everything else, they do wear out.

Looks like Steve might have a solution for you.

I have a 2000, regular cab, short narrow bed, 4.6, 4X4, five speed. I bought it used in 2004 with less than 60K miles. It was VERY hard to find and I drove 300 miles to get it. I wouldn't take anything for it. I love it.

The transmission is not the very best. It is a Mazda unit and probably wouldn't tolerate hard shifting or being handled by someone with poor stick shift skills. It has been flawless for me, however with only light towing. I've never had any leak issues with it or the transfer case. Come to think of it, I can't remember ever seeing one single drop of anything underneath this truck in the eight years or so that I've owned it.

One more thing. Being a stick shift fanatic, over the years I have converted sevral vehicles from automatic to manual transmission. My advice to anyone who starts a project like this is to have the donor vehicle close at hand, preferably in the same building. Don't try to get all the pieces sent to you. There will be trim pieces, little brackets, or all sorts of possible things that no one would think to send you if they took it apart to send you the pieces.

Hope this helps.
