Noisy fuel pump on frame even after replaced
I have a 2000 Excursion 4x4 limited with the 7.3. It's my third excursion, and my second 7.3. When I bought this one about a year ago, it had 159,000 miles and the previous owner had installed a Faas high pressure fuel pump on the frame rail, just below the rear seat on the driver's side. He had cut the factory supply line just in front of the rear wheel and again just as it entered the engine area to splice on rubber hoses for his new pump. The pump noise was very noticeable even after the truck was running. It made a loud whirling noise constantly. So, last week the truck was acting up and not running right. It wasn't getting enough fuel and left me stranded in traffic. I finally figured out that I wasn't hearing the noise anymore, and hit it with a rubber mallet, which allowed me to get it home. I went ahead and replaced it with a Napa oem pump assuming that if it were to go bad, I had a 12 month warranty, and could buy three for the same price as a bosch. Anyway, I just made a bracket and reused the rubber lines. It's starts and seems to run okay, but it's just as loud! WHY? I've looked the line over and don't see leaks. Is it cavitating? Unfortunately, I'm not real knowledgeable about the diesels and fuel system. I hate to go buy a high dollar factory pump if it's not the pump. I can turn the radio up, but I don't think they are supposed to be loud, and I don't like to get stranded. I'm sure someone on here can steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance guys!!!
