49 F1 door handle help

I am trying to remove the outside door handles from my 49 F1. There looks like a slotted screw in the door that will turn 1/4 turn in either direction but that is all (both doors) I am at a loss any info will help

Directly even with the door handle, in the jamb, and at an angle, there is a phillips head screw that needs to come all the way out.

The original screw was a slotted round head or pan head, iirc. If you can get it to move a little bit, spray some penetrating fluid in there and work it back and forth until it comes loose.
