1973 f-250 gas tank replacement ?'s
Hey guys, I am hoping someone can help me out here. I have to replace the gas tank (in cab) on my 1973 f-250 camper special (2wd, 390). I was wondering what years trucks will work as a replacement. Will all 73-79 trucks fit? Also, are there any other parts with the tank that should be replaced or specifics about tanks I should know about when searching for one?
Thanks!

1977 was the last year of the in cab gas tanks. Double check the filler neck and the grommet on the outside of the cab so that it seals good around the filler neck (you don't want any fumes coming into the cab). Since you are replacing the gas tank, now is a good time to check and replace the soft gas lines and your fuel filter. Also, while you have it out and before you replace it with another tank, the Eastwood Company sells gas tank sealer in a quart for around $30 that will help make sure the "new" used tank is clean and will last longer. I really think it is worth the money to do it. You could also check around to see what works the best, as I have not used this product but have had friends who did and they liked it.

Originally, this was the FoMoCo service part replacement for 1961/69 in-cab tanks, was factory installed in 1970/72's.
DOTZ-9002-A (replaced C1TZ-9002-K) .. 19 Gallon In Cab Fuel Tank / Reproduced.
Applications (all gas): 1961/66 F100/850 / 1963/69 N/NT/T500/1000 / 1967/69 F800/1000 / 1967/72 F100/750 except 1970/72 F100's with Evaporative Emission (Evap/Em).
No one reproduces the 1973/77 in-cab tanks, there are two different types: With/without Evap/Em. No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Will this DOTZ tank work in 1973/77's? 1973/77's have different part numbers, so I dunno.
Fuel vapors inside cab: The fuel filler neoprene hose clamps onto the fuel filler tube and to the collar of the in-cab tank. Over time it swells up and cracks. It also cracks where the clamps are present.
The fuel sending unit uses a cork gasket between it and the tank. Cork shrinks with age allowing vapors to emit from the tank.
The Evap/Em fuel vapor valve (if present) uses a neoprene o-ring that also cracks with age. This valve is located adjacent to the sending unit.
The fuel filler tube rubber grommet has nothing to do with vapors.
