One day it was sunny then the next your house was gone. Walmart was a mad house today !!!! Guess i'll see if the log cabin can take 100 mph winds. SURFS UP !!!

Maybe it's time to fire up REO Speedwagon's "Riding the Storm Out?" My mom is in Ft. Meyers, but I haven't heard a thing from her. I hope all is well with you down there.

Best wishes to you, your family, and your truck weathering the storm. I used to be on a newsgroup (remember those?) for another make of vehicle and one of the regulars had his car wrapped around a tree. My wife is from Florida and her family wondered how we could live in California because of earthquakes. I found that a bit ironic!

We are planning a trip to Orlando in November. Are the storms over then?

The figures below show the points of tropical cyclone genesis by 10-day periods during the hurricane season. These figures depict named storms only; no subtropical storms or unnamed storms. The source years include 1851-2009 for the Atlantic and 1949-2009 for the Eastern Pacific from the HURDAT database.

Sound's like a bad marriage. Be safe, grab Toto, Aunty May and head for the root cellar

We get them too, and I am keeping my eye on this one. The last big one we had that hit Houston was Ike in September of 08. We live 60 miles inland and lost much of our roofing. We stayed at home with a house full of inlaws and friends. Our 100 year old house did fine, but I could feel it vibrate from the wind. It hit here at about 2 in the morning. Across the street a large oak tree broke clean in two 15 feet up. Trees everywhere were down on power lines and roads all over. I buddy of mine who lives a few blocks away had a wind gauge that he can read indoors. The highest gust was 143mph and the highest sustained was 102mph. You wouldn't have wanted to be outside. We didn't have power for 3 weeks, but I do have a generator so we were fine. Then the following day, we got 10" of rain. We had lots of water damage since the roof was half blown off, but the main part of our house is so steep that almost no water came in that part. The rest got pretty wet in places, including my shop.
I am really hoping that this storm fizzles out and stays away from here! Ike was the costliest hurricane in Texas history and the 2nd costliest in US history. Now it is hard to get insurance against hurricanes here unless you already had it. Most of the big insurance companies won't even write new policies here in the area. If they do the cost is crazy and the deductible is huge.

The latest track prediction has it going right where Katrina went.
I'm aware that I'm experiencing some PTSD Symptoms.
It's 7 years later almost to the day.

The main street of my town 1 block from my home

Around the corner from my home

I have pictures of what was left of my place but I don't look at them.

I sure hope you (or anybody else) don't have to go through that again.
