Some questions before starting the heated mirror switch mod

Finished the high idle switch mod, thanks to all for the help. Now looking at the mirrors. I looked at the tech file and got lost on the fuse tapping. Would a add-a-fuse work? He seemed to be tapping that fuse, but I'm not very clear on what he was doing it for. I guess he skipped a lot of steps that "people who know what they are doing" would consider a big waste of time. I ain't one of those people. Anybody that can break it down a little for me? Any help appreciated.

Are you trying to wire in heated mirrors? You can wire it however you want. From the factory ford had them on anytime the key was in the ON position. This is called "Ignition Hot." There is a wire going to each window switch that you can use for this if you want to do it that way.

If you want to do it on a switch, find out where you want to put the switch and see if there is an ignition hot wire near there. If not run a wire from the fuse box like you were talking about.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear either. I have heated mirrors. What I want is to get them on a switch so that ARE NOT on all of the time, but rather only when I turn on the switch. After thinking about it, I see what he did. He broke a fuse in half, added a wire to each side, put a fuse in one of those wires, then put in a switch so that he can complete or break the circuit. He moved the fuse and added a switch. I'm trying to figure out a way to do it without all that fab work. It seems that someone would make a fuse shaped device that has 2 connectors coming off for just the type of issue, or that there's a way to do it such that the original fuse could still be used. I think I'm making this more complex than necessary. My new plan is to find the wire behind the fuse box and tap it. Any idea what the '03 wire color is?

My way was bit like that. I took a fuse spade end, soldered to a wire. Using needle nose pliers, insert the fuse blade with the wire on the mirror side of the fuse. I think it is nr 21 or 22. The mirror side is on the right.

I found the wire from the uplifter switch nr2, connected to the pigtail from the fuse block. Works great.
