Rethinking What I call my truck.

I don't know how many of you guys have a name you call your truck. Well I call my truck "Blackie" Because it a big black CC dually. And from the back looking at the dually wheels, fenders and the chrome diff cover it looks like a woman with a big wide a** wearing a thong. I love "Blackie" but calling her by name as caused me a dirty look the other day. Also my 4yr old daughter calls her Blackie too.

Now for you guys that don't know me I am NOT a racist . I treat all people equally until they prove to me other wise. And I raise my daughter with these valves.

My daughter and I go to Bass Pro Shop about once a week. It is her favorite store and it is also one of my favorites. So as we leave the store the other day and my daughter in her sweet little voice says to me
"Daddy where is "Blackie"?
And as I point at the truck in the parking lot and I say "Blackie is just right over there Sweetie!"
I was all happy and talking to my daughter the way I do. And as I turn to grab my daughters hand to cross into the parking lot.....Then is a African American man giving me a dirty look.

And all I could do is and keep walking. Whatever.... I'll call her what I want. But I am rethinking it.

I have story, its not about our truck though. My son went on a trip with me to Kansas City,he was 8ish,we stopped at a truckstop, pulled up to the fuel island,we get out and start doing the fuel island thing,my son, from the other side of the truck yells"hey you want me to get that n***** knocker(tire thumper) and go hit the tires",LOL of course the thought of getting in the truck and leaving crossed my mine but we stayed and finished fueling..we are also not racist and we have many friends that are non white and I know this isn't truck related but it really fit this thread...sorry ED highjack is over..

I say who cares the ones who might care, should also accept your honest answer if they asked. I know many people who call their white trucks "whitey" and black trucks "blackie" or "ebony".

Now Phil when I was a kid and one of my African American friends were being an A**hole I would call him a N word. And there was no offence was taken. But in this day in age a white man can't even say the N word without someone getting upset. Back when I was a kid you called a African American a black man and he took no offence too it. But in this PC world I just think it is sad you have to watch everything you say. Even if you mean no harm. And for what it worth my daughter has never even heard the N word. Maybe when she is older and knows what the word really means I'll tell her. And I think your story actually reaffirms my thought on that.

Hey man, keep the original name you gave it! Who cares what other people think. It comes down to the fact that those that don't like the name you gave it have a problem with the way they are thinking, not you. You know what you mean by it! You're not obligated to get everyone else's acceptance for the name you came up with. If you had to then what a miserable existance that would be!

Keep your original name and don't let losers change what you think.

Dont rename it Ed. All my vehicles have names but all my trucks and X have the name Nellie in it. My 02 F350 is named "Whoa Nellie" 73 F350 is "Ol Nellie" 73 F250 is "Nellie Bell" 02 X is "Big Nellie" My sons 08 Focus is "Lil Blue" and daughters 08 Fusion is "Lil Red" and the mother-in-laws first name is Nellie and she is not skinny but I dont get any grief about calling the X Big Nellie. I got the word from my dad because when I was little and when we drove in his 70 F250 and the thing would spit and sputter huck and buck going down the road he would always say "come on nellie lets go"

This is a free world so call it what you like.

Me too! But that doesn't keep the girlfriend from naming them...

I have Skittles, Maude, Trixy, TicTac, the Yellow Submarine, and the silver fox. She also named the camper, Sandy.

I do however have a name for my boat. "The Wife" (too many of my buddies always said they had to "ask the wife" to go fishing, so I just figured I'd call my boat "the wife" then it's always ok.

Might as well.... You have to be married to a boat anyway.

My wife and I (the person, not the boat or the truck) name almost everything for the sake of entertainment. Leaving out the TMI items, the wheeled/transportation items are:

Everybody knows "Stinky" - the wonder diesel
Toyota Corolla - "Vixen"
Jeep Loredo - "Li Ray Jo" (homage to family)
San Juan 21 sail boat - "Wild Blue Juander"
Boat trailer - "Doc"
Outboard motor - "Pushy"
Autopliot - "Red" (it's a gas can we bungee to the tiller)
Utility Trailer - "Flatso"
Suzuki Burgman (oversized scooter) - "Piglet"
Battery-powered lawn mower - "Buzz"

I say keep the name. IMO, it's color, not a slur. My '76 Corvette is named "Queen Cocoa" (it's dark metallic brown...)

We name all our trucks. We have to or else we would have no clue which vehicle we are talking about. Some of you may already know that my 3 personal trucks are named after the chipmunks (Alvin, Simon and Theodore). They each have little stuffed animals in the rear window because I wasn't about to put those names on the front license plate frames.

At work all our fleet trucks have names as well. It's a pretty big list. I can see at least 2 names that are 'questionable' and one that could easily be viewed as derogatory. That particular truck was originally named "Lazy" (and still carries that name plate)...but over time it obtained a nickname from the gals in the front office. They say the term comes from a Spike Lee movie...

Did "Larry" go to the parking lot in the sky?

Yes folks... I'm geeky enough to read the whole list.

Unfortunately we lost Larry. It was a 2003 6.0 liter truck. Enough said...
