1996 F-250 4x4 Speedometer...PSOM??
I have a 96 F-250 4x4.....The problems i am having are
For one i dont know if it has overdrive or not cause there is no on/off switch...Does it?
If it does have overdrive it is not shifting correctly...i am getting terrible mileage
Speedometer is bouncing out of control, but sometimes it works fine and sometimes speedometer doesnt work at all.
ODO only works when speedometer does, so usually no ODO
The ABS light is on all the time and the check engine light flickers on and off
also no cruise control.....Can anyone please help??
Thanks, John

If you don't have an O/D Cancel switch, then you have a C6. A C6 would not care about your speedometer. I wouldn't expect much more then 12MPG with a C6/5.8 though. Less if it's a 460 truck.
Sometimes people break the end of the shifter, and they might have just put a non-OD cap on it. Does your "Drive" indicator have a circle around the "D"? If it does, then you should have the E4OD which will be affected by an irregular speedometer.
The ABS light is probably coming because the speedometer is acting weird. I'd start first by checking/cleaning the connection of the VSS sensor on the rear differential. If the connection is good, try replacing the VSS next.
However, if your engine light is flickering, that means there should be a code stores. You'll need to pull the codes for sure.

You definetly have issues with the VSS on the rear differential. Check the wiring/connections, you may need to clean or replace the VSS, you might have some sort of rearend failure causing the sensor to act up. Your check engine light might be on because of the VSS or you could have other problems also, causing it to be on. I would pull the codes first and see what they actually are, then I would sort out the VSS problem, then deal with any other codes that there might be, be sure to do both the KOEO and KOER test to get all the codes.

A loose fuse in the holder(s) will cause intermittant connections giving the symptoms you describe.
You dont have a "Fuse Tap" in either of those slots do you ????
Also, IIRC there was a TSB about the screws in the dome light contacting the metal roof which could cause the symptoms you have.
Just my take,
Bob
