I believe those are often referred to as "Puddle Lights" or "Puddle Lamps." I'm not sure about the 2003 Mountaineer. Some of the folks on the Gen 6 Taurus forum are claiming they needed to cut the mirror apart to access the bulb holder. I haven't tried to access mine yet, but I would expect they can be accessed either from the bottom or by removing the mirror glass, which isn't usually too bad to release without damage.

I don't see any entry from the mirrow - so assuming underneath, but it is not evident.

Here's how I do it on my '02 Explorer:

You do not need to remove the mirror to do this.

This picture is from the Signal Mirror How To. That's why the mirror has been removed.

Keep the mirror on the Ex and insert the blade as shown, then push up and away from door and the lens will pop out. Then twist the socket out of the lens to remove the bulb.

Be very careful with the razor blade so you don't cut yourself! If you are having trouble with the razor blade then using a very thin, small screwdriver might be the way to go! Mine popped out very easily with the razor blade. That's why I suggest using it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hope this helps out.

Does the cover snap on, or does it need to be glued back in place after the bulb is replaced?

Rod, as long as you don't break the lens taking it off, it just snaps back in.

You're welcome. On a side note: how do I get email updates of threads I have posted in?
