94 E4OD to M5OD Swap?
Hey Everyone, I have a 94 F-150 5.8 E4OD 4x4. My auto trans is going bad and I was thinking of converting it to the M5OD 5 speed manual.
I know that I will need to:
Cut a hole in the floor for the shifter
Install a 3 pedal setup in the cab
Install a clutch master cylinder on the cab
run the hydraulic line down to the clutch.
I already have a transfer case for the 5 speed
Can anyone else think of any problems I might run into with this project?

If you can find one before you find a M5OD....go for a ZF5. MUCH better transmission, both in terms of longevity and gearing.
The M5OD has such a TALL Reverse gear, if you have to back up a trailer, say goodbye to your clutch! At least your 4x4 so you can just stick it in 4 LO but still.
I hate my M5OD, and if ever something was to happen to it, ZF5 it is!
However, finding a small block 4x4 ZF5 is pretty hard to find.....
Otherwise, sounds like you already know what your doing.
Might have to mod your current tranny cross member or get one from a 5 speed truck.
And you will need a clutch pedal assembly from a 1992-96 F-series, other years wont work.

Computers made to run with auto trans. have slightly different programs. I have interchanged computers with EEC-IV, like yours, without noticeable glitches, but that does not mean you will be happy with the way your E4OD intended computer behaves running a manual trans. You likely will get "check engine" codes generated, as your computer tries to figure out what's happening with the E4OD which ain't there no more. At that point, you will want to get the correct computer for your application, as specified for manual trans. impish

Probably?, What's an M5OD rated for? There is a reason Ford did not put it behind a 351W and the torque it can deliver. Torque input is different than what you tow.
