Need an opinion here...
Alright, my truck is a 96 F-150 SuperCab shortbed. 351, E4OD, 4x4, 3.55 gear, 31x10.50x15 worn-out tires that I'll be replacing soon. 23x,xxx miles on her, mechanicals in good shape. Truck was well maintained as far as oil changes and stuff.
Engine is stock except for autolite copper plugs gapped to .050, newer Ford Racing plug wires, MSD distributor cap. I did the plugs, the previous owner claimed he recently replaced the cap/rotor/wires before I bought it, and they look newer. (I know looks are not a good test, planning on replacing them)
Now, 95+ degrees out yesterday. Runnin 70 MPH unloaded up a 10% grade (it was a bridge actually), a/c on. I briefly gave her full throttle and she really didn't wanna do much faster.
Am I asking too much of her to run 70+ in hot humid air, up a grade, and keep me cool at the same time? Not an issue for me normally, the speed limit on the highway is 70 and I normally run 60-65 in the slow lane. I know she ain't built for speed and I ain't ever in a hurry to get somewhere with her, but if I had a trailer on or the bed loaded I mighta been forced to do 60 anyhow lol. Either that or buy a diesel.
My old 94 F-250 460 E4OD 2wd regular cab longbed didn't have a problem doing this, but she had 4.10 gears and slightly smaller tires.
I'm thinkin it's time to gap the plugs to .055, replace cap/rotor/wires, and bump the timing (per the sixlitre tuneup method)
Anyone think I'm missing some power, or is that about what everyone else gets too?
